It's National School Bus Safety Week, and every morning and afternoon, school buses carry our most precious cargo, our students.

This week, and every week, we’re reminding our community that school bus safety is a shared responsibility.

In North Carolina:
🛑 You must stop for a school bus displaying red flashing lights and an extended stop arm, even if you’re coming from the opposite direction on a two-lane road (unless you’re on a divided highway with a median).
🚗 Passing a stopped bus is illegal and could cost you $500 or more, as well as driver’s license points.
⚠️ Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop — not an invitation to speed around it.

Thank you to our drivers for your patience, care, and commitment to student safety. And thank you, Chatham County, for doing your part to keep our kids safe. #OneChatham

#OneChatham
