🚶‍♀️🛴 Happy National Walk & Roll to School Day! 🎒🌞

Students, families, and staff across Chatham County laced up their sneakers, grabbed their helmets, and hit the sidewalks this morning to celebrate the joy (and health benefits!) of getting to school on foot or wheels.

Events like these encourage safe routes, healthy habits, and a strong sense of community, one step (or pedal) at a time! 💙💚

Thanks to everyone who joined the movement and helped make the morning extra special.

October 2nd & 3rd were teacher workdays across Chatham County Schools, and our educators made the most of them!

From hands-on workshops to collaborative planning sessions, professional development was in full swing. Teachers engaged in training on instructional strategies, data-driven practices, and innovative tools to keep classrooms engaging and student-centered.

These days are about more than just planning, they’re about growth, reflection, and preparing to elevate learning for every student. 💡🍎

Congratulations to our September Power of One Winner, Ms. Wendi Pillars from Silk Hope School! Her nominator said:
"Wendi brings over three decades of experience in education, both statewide and overseas. Most recently, she earned her certification as a North Carolina Environmental Educator, a distinction that required more than 200 hours of dedicated work. Silk Hope School has been blessed to have Wendi join our team last year as a 4/5 science teacher. Since returning to her ESL position this school year, she has hit the ground running by providing weekly resources for staff and pushing into classrooms to offer direct support with any need. Wendi enriches classrooms by weaving environmental learning into her lessons, inspiring students to connect with both language and the world around them. Her work not only benefits our English Learners, but also enhances the learning experience for all students, making her an invaluable member of our team." #OneChatham #ElevateChatham

Voices That Matter: Students, Educators & Parents at the Table!

Today, Chatham County Schools brought together three powerful voices in education:
👩‍🎓 Student Advisory Committee
🍎 Educator Advisory Committee
👨‍👩‍👧 Parent Advisory Committee

These advisory groups met to share perspectives, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration across our schools and community. Each voice — whether student, educator, or parent — plays a vital role in shaping a learning environment where ALL students can thrive.

We are grateful for the time, input, and partnership of those who participated today. Together, we’re building bridges that connect classrooms, homes, and the community to support the success of ALL learners in Chatham County.

Did you know that chronic absenteeism — missing just 10% of school days (about 18 days a year) — can quietly derail a child’s academic future? 😔 That’s only 2 days a month, but the impact can last a lifetime.

🎯 Why does attendance matter?
✅ Higher academic achievement
✅ Better graduation rates
✅ Stronger career readiness
✅ Improved mental health & self-esteem

But this isn’t just about statistics — it’s about creating school environments where every student feels safe, supported, and seen. 🧡

🏡 Families can help by building daily routines: early bedtimes, healthy breakfasts, and consistent wake-up times.
📣 Schools can send encouraging messages that celebrate attendance and emphasize connection.
🏙️ Communities and businesses can step up to help break down barriers and show students they matter — every day.

Together, we can reduce absenteeism, boost engagement, and build a brighter future for ALL Chatham County youth. 💪🌟
