Congratulations to Michael Witkowski, Silk Hope School, named our February Champions of Character winner for the word Empathy.

Michael's nominator said:
"I would like to nominate Michael in recognition of the genuine care and compassion he shows to those around him each day. He consistently demonstrates kindness and goes out of his way to ensure his classmates feel included, valued, and accepted. When a peer is having a tough day, he notices, often without a word being said, and steps in to offer encouragement, humor, or simple companionship to lift their spirits.

He has a remarkable ability to read body language, facial expressions, and the overall “vibe” of a situation. Because of this awareness, he responds thoughtfully and sensitively, helping others navigate their feelings in a calm and caring way. His empathy creates a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and understood. He truly embodies what it means to care for others, and our school community is better because of him."

By embracing the strategy of data-driven practices, intentional instructional changes, and our principals embedding themselves as coaches instead of evaluators, Education NC recently came to observe the intentional practices implemented at Virginia Cross Elementary School and Siler City Elementary School. We are proud of the academic growth reflected from the hard work on display at SCE, VCE, and across the county.

What an unforgettable night at Northwood! 🏀

Drake Powell came home tonight for his "Jersey in the Rafters" Ceremony (retiring his NHS #32 jersey), and the community showed up in full force for a packed house.

The energy in the building reflected the pride the ONE Chatham community has for one of its own. It was a powerful reminder of the tradition, excellence, and Charger pride that continue to define Northwood.
