Congratulations to our May Champions of Character Recipient, Giancarlo Nolasco Ixtabalan from Jordan-Matthews High, for the character word Citizenship and Service to the Community. His nominator said: "Giancarlo Nolasco embodies the core of Citizenship & Service through his unwavering commitment to his community and his proactive approach to tackling critical issues in public education and social justice. Over the past month, Giancarlo has shown exceptional responsibility in several impactful ways. He passionately advocated at the Every Child NC rally, taking the initiative to be the sole student voice, fighting for better funding for our school system and opposing harmful legislation. His stirring speech earned him the only standing ovation of the day, underscoring the power of his advocacy. Giancarlo's efforts were widely recognized, as he was featured in over 10 news outlets and interviewed by more than 5 of them on the same day, amplifying his important message. Additionally, Giancarlo served as a Governor's Page, presenting a policy aimed at securing better funding for students with disabilities, showcasing his commitment to creating inclusive educational opportunities and his ability to influence policy for the betterment of his peers. Actively participating in every event organized by the Siler City Fiesta Committee, Giancarlo has demonstrated his dedication to cultural enrichment and community engagement, proudly celebrating Hispanic heritage. 🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS! 🏆 Chatham County showed OUT at the NCHSAA Outdoor Track & Field State Championships this weekend — and we’ve got medals, records, and history to prove it! Seaforth Boys Track Team secured their first-ever outdoor STATE TITLE just months after winning indoor! The 4x400 squad set a new meet record (3:21.34) to seal the championship. We couldn’t be prouder of these athletes for their grit, determination, and sportsmanship. #ONEChatham

These students have earned the Gates Scholarship, the App State Murray Family Scholarship, the Odyssey Scholarship to Elon University, scholarships to UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Greensboro, NC Teaching Fellows to NC State and more! 📚 A Day in Chatham County Schools with NC Superintendent Mo Green! 🚌 Yesterday, CCS was honored to host State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mo Green, for a full morning of school visits across the district. Accompanied by Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson, the CCS Senior Cabinet, and members of the Board of Education — Chair Gary Leonard, Vice Chair Del Turner, and Ms. Jane Allen Wilson — Superintendent Green toured Siler City Elementary, Virginia Cross Elementary, Pittsboro Elementary, and Seaforth High School. We were also joined by Representative Robert Reives II and Chatham County Commissioners Chair Karen Howard and Vice Chair Katie Kenlan, for this special visit. The day wrapped with a student-catered lunch at Central Services, thanks to the talented Culinary Arts students from Northwood High School! Thank you, Superintendent Green, for spending the day with us and seeing firsthand the excellence and innovation happening across #ONEChatham.
