Care Package Distribution by Chatham County Schools, Rotary Club of Pittsboro to Help Citizens in Need

PITTSBORO, N.C. – In honor of this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, members of Chatham County Schools, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Pittsboro, came together to create no-sew fleece blankets and assemble a total of 75 care packages for senior citizens in need. On Thursday, March 12, those items were distributed through Chatham County Meals on Wheels, a program of Chatham County Aging Services, which supports older residents throughout the community.
On MLK Day in January, Northwood High School’s Interact Club students and many community volunteers gathered to assemble care packages, make fleece blankets, and younger students wrote and drew encouraging messages for those who need them most.
“Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a reminder that even small acts of service can make a big difference,” said Chatham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony D. Jackson. “Seeing our students come together to create blankets, assemble care packages, and write encouraging messages truly reflects the spirit of service Dr. King inspired.”
Funding from the Rotary Club’s annual Pittsboro Street Fair, which backs Rotary Club-led service projects, helped make the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service possible, and allows the Rotary Club to address other community needs.
Chatham County Schools is grateful for the continued partnership with community organizations such as the Rotary Club of Pittsboro, that help provide meaningful opportunities for students to serve others and make a positive impact across Chatham County.
