This year, Chatham Central educator Amy King collaborated with National Geographic Explorer Haruka Sakaguchi and former Japanese internment camp incarceree Mary Abo to help develop a powerful, student-centered curriculum inspired by The Camps America Built. This work brings the history of Japanese American incarceration during World War II into the classroom with empathy, inquiry, and meaningful engagement. National Geographic recently published the Explorer-Educator Exchange lesson between Chatham Central and Ms. Sakaguchi found here: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/851de1d34d794a4a8fdbd7f33bd0e060?item=8
The website features a timeline of impactful learning, featuring the presentation our students and Ms. King delivered at the CCS Board of Education meeting. National Geographic also highlights the short documentary made by our Chatham County Schools PR team on the effect this project had on our students and their perspectives moving forward. Happy Administrative Professionals Day!
We celebrated our amazing team at today’s luncheon at Central Services, and honestly, one day isn’t enough.
They keep the calendars straight, the phones answered, and the rest of us on track (most of the time 😉). We’d be lost without you!

Happy School Bus Driver Appreciation Day!
Rain or shine, early mornings and busy afternoons, our bus drivers show up with care, patience, and dedication to safely get our students where they need to be.
Thank you for being the first smile of the day and the last wave goodbye. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💛

🌎 Happy Earth Day!
Be nice to the planet, it’s the only one with coffee, kids, and school drop-off lines. 😉
Recycle a little more, waste a little less, and maybe hug a tree (or at least pick up some litter) today. ♻️
