📵 Cellphone Use in Schools: A New Chapter for NC Students 📚

In response to House Bill 959, signed by Governor Josh Stein, North Carolina public schools are required to implement policies that limit student cellphone use during instructional time by January 1, 2026.

At CCS, we're ahead of the curve with our Yondr Pouch program — ensuring classrooms remain focused and distraction-free. Students in participating schools lock their phones in secure Yondr pouches from arrival until dismissal each day. This initiative supports a better learning environment and helps build healthy tech habits.

🚨 Need to reach your child during the school day? Emergency contacts can still be made through the school office.

Learn more about our Yondr policy and how it aligns with state guidelines at https://www.chatham.k12.nc.us/page/yondr-pouch-pilot-program 📚

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen school libraries, CCS librarians have been hard at work:
✔️ Adding 4,729 new books

✔️ Ensuring each student has access to modern, engaging reading materials
✔️ Tracking toward a district goal of fiction collections averaging 2010 or newer by 2025–26

With an average of 20 books checked out per student, our libraries continue to play a vital role in supporting literacy. #OneChatham
