The idea for a space outside of the classroom for staff to congregate while eating and planning came up while reviewing staff survey feedback during this month's School Leadership Team meeting. We are so lucky to have a staff that wants to collaborate and build relationships with each other to continue growing as a strong team for the benefit of our students!
Shout out to our School Leadership Team for always prioritizing what is best for students and staff and implementing changes quickly time and time again to keep VCE the place everyone wants to be! 🧡 💙

The Quill is a writing competition in which teams of 3 students create written products after each being given a prompt from one of 3 text types (Narrative, Opinion, Informational). The Quill is an original competition developed in cooperation with the North Carolina Reading Association (NCRA) and aligns with North Carolina reading standards.
Way to go, Cubs, and thank you to Mrs. Cox for facilitating this opportunity!

Students had to audition to join All County Chorus and will spend the day rehearsing together and growing as vocalists leading up to the 6:00pm concert. Thank you to the Chatham Education Foundation and Chatham Arts Council for helping to fund this event.
Congratulations to the Cubs representing VCE and our music teacher Ms. Courtney for inspiring our musicians (and lending her design talents for the flyer 👀)

5th graders learned more about how the AVID program is implemented in middle school and had the opportunity to ask 8th grade students questions. We loved seeing former Cubs and seeing a preview of where our 5th graders are headed 😎

🎨 🖼️ Virginia Cross Elementary placed 2nd in our region in the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities (NCASA) 2026 Regional Art Showcase! Six 5th grade artists expertly took on the "American Mosaic" theme in different styles and stood out among hundreds of entries. These students spent many afternoons after school working on their pieces with the support of Ms. Chevez. We are so proud of our Cubs!
🥇 Special shout out to Messiah Harris who won 1st place in the state in the printmaking category!
