North Chatham Spelling Bee
In a hallway of cheer, where the holidays glow,
We’ve cooked up a plan you’ll soon come to know!
For twelve days of joy as the break nears the door,
We’re hanging up stockings—one for each teacher and more!

Each teacher, each helper, each marvelous pro,
Gets a stocking of magic with notes slipped below.
And you—yes, you!—can help fill them with cheer,
With shoutouts and love for the folks working here!

Just pick from the drop-down whose stocking you choose,
Then type in a message—there’s no way to lose!
Share thanks, share encouragement, brighten their day,
With words that will warm them in your own way.

The Office Team elves (they work with great speed!)
Will print every note for our staff folks to read.
They’ll pop them in stockings—oh what a sight!—
To open and smile at day’s end each night.

So families and students and neighbors all in,
Let’s shower our staff with big grins to their chin!
Be quick with your rhymes, don’t delay or stall—
All entries are due December 11th, that’s all!

Reading connects us all, and we’re excited to celebrate our love of reading during our Book Character Parade! 📚 Please review the following guidelines to ensure a fun, safe, and inclusive event for all students.

👕 Costume Guidelines
-Each costume must represent a character from a book; students should bring the book (or a printed picture of the cover) to carry in the parade.
-Costumes should be school-appropriate.
-No masks, no face paint covering the entire face, and no scary costumes (some of our students are very young and may be sensitive to frightening images).
-No weapons (including toy swords, knives, or guns).
-Make sure any accessories or props are small and easy to carry (no oversized or delicate items).
-No inflatable costumes.
-Costumes should be sensory-friendly (no flashing lights or loud sounds).
-Students should be able to put on, wear, and manage their costume independently throughout the day if they choose to wear it after the parade, and students should still be able to move easily and sit comfortably in their costume during class.
-Please check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.
-If your child has PE or recess on parade day, consider packing a change of clothes and shoes for easier movement and play.

❤️ Inclusivity & Fun
-Encourage your child to choose a book and character they love!
-Be creative with simple materials you already have at home—book character costumes don’t have to be fancy or store-bought.
-Our goal is for every student to feel included, safe, and proud of their character choice.

These guidelines help ensure that all students can fully participate and enjoy the Book Character Parade experience. Mark your calendars to join us for the parade on Friday, October 31st from 8:00-8:30 AM in the bus loop out front of the school.
