Reading connects us all, and we’re excited to celebrate our love of reading during our Book Character Parade! 📚 Please review the following guidelines to ensure a fun, safe, and inclusive event for all students.

👕 Costume Guidelines
-Each costume must represent a character from a book; students should bring the book (or a printed picture of the cover) to carry in the parade.
-Costumes should be school-appropriate.
-No masks, no face paint covering the entire face, and no scary costumes (some of our students are very young and may be sensitive to frightening images).
-No weapons (including toy swords, knives, or guns).
-Make sure any accessories or props are small and easy to carry (no oversized or delicate items).
-No inflatable costumes.
-Costumes should be sensory-friendly (no flashing lights or loud sounds).
-Students should be able to put on, wear, and manage their costume independently throughout the day if they choose to wear it after the parade, and students should still be able to move easily and sit comfortably in their costume during class.
-Please check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.
-If your child has PE or recess on parade day, consider packing a change of clothes and shoes for easier movement and play.

❤️ Inclusivity & Fun
-Encourage your child to choose a book and character they love!
-Be creative with simple materials you already have at home—book character costumes don’t have to be fancy or store-bought.
-Our goal is for every student to feel included, safe, and proud of their character choice.

These guidelines help ensure that all students can fully participate and enjoy the Book Character Parade experience. Mark your calendars to join us for the parade on Friday, October 31st from 8:00-8:30 AM in the bus loop out front of the school.

The admin team is hosting a session titled "The Jaguar Journey: Lunch, Learn, and Lead" as an opportunity for the NCE staff to celebrate last year’s wins, reflect on our goals, and align our direction for another amazing year during the Teacher Work Day on Tuesday, November 4th. We would like to provide staff with a lunch spread to enjoy as we break bread together and foster community! 🥣

If you would like to sign up to contribute to the spread, sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0845A5AA29ABFAC34-59696162-lunch.

All items can be dropped off at the office on the afternoon of November 3rd or the morning of November 4th.

Please note that it would be helpful for warm items to be delivered in a crockpot and/or serving utensils to be provided. All items should be labeled with your child's name.

During this #FlashbackFriday, we are going back in time to Custodian Appreciation Day (October 2nd). Our Custodians unlock safety, smiles, and sparkle, and they are the key to making NCE clean! Many thanks to our Custodians - Ms. Bailey, Mr. Bland, Ms. Nereida, and Mr. Luis. Students gave each of them a new key ring filled with messages of appreciation and our PTA provided them with lunch from Jersey Mike's to celebrate. 🔐 #onechatham
