PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chatham County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bradford Walston as Interim Chief Security, Safety, and Operations Officer, effective September 1, 2026.
Since July 2024, Walston has served as the district’s director of safety and security, working closely with Chief Operations Officer Chris Blice to support safe, secure, and effective learning environments across Chatham County Schools. In his new role, Walston will serve on the Superintendent’s Senior Cabinet and oversee the district’s safety, security, facilities, maintenance, and transportation operations.
“Dr. Walston brings a valuable combination of school-level leadership, districtwide safety experience, and a deep understanding of our students, employees, and communities,” Superintendent Dr. Kelly Batten said. “His collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement will serve the district well as he steps into this expanded leadership role.”
Before transitioning to district leadership, Walston served as principal of Northwood High School from 2018 to 2024. During his tenure, he led efforts to strengthen academic programming, student opportunities, school culture, and community engagement.
“I am honored to continue serving Chatham County Schools in this new capacity,” Walston said. “The work of our safety and operations teams directly supports everything that happens in our classrooms. Over the years, I have had the privilege of building strong relationships with colleagues across our district, and I look forward to deepening those partnerships as we continue working together to provide safe, welcoming, and well-supported learning environments for every student and employee.”
