MALLORYChatham County Schools Names Dr. Mallory Heffelfinger Principal of Bennett School

PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chatham County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mallory Heffelfinger as the new principal of Bennett School. Her first official day in the role will be Monday, July 27, 2026.

Dr. Heffelfinger has served Chatham County Schools since 2023 at North Chatham Elementary School, where she has worked closely with students, staff, and families to support student success and strengthen the school community.

“Dr. Heffelfinger brings a strong commitment to student success, collaborative leadership, and building meaningful relationships with staff, families, and the community,” Superintendent Dr. Kelly Batten said. “We are excited to welcome her to Bennett School and look forward to the leadership she will provide as the school continues its important work serving students and families.”

Dr. Heffelfinger will be introduced to Bennett School staff on Monday, July 20, and will work closely with outgoing principal, Dr. Carla Neal, to support a smooth and thoughtful leadership transition.

“I am honored to join the Bennett School community and excited to begin building relationships with its students, staff, and families,” Dr. Heffelfinger said. “I look forward to listening, learning, and working together to continue the school’s tradition of supporting every student.”

Dr. Heffelfinger will begin serving as principal following Dr. Neal’s final day on Friday, July 24. Additional information about an upcoming meet-and-greet opportunity for Bennett School students and families will be shared at a later date.
