PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chatham County Schools proudly celebrated the contributions of volunteers and announced more than $548,000 in school funding during the Annual PTA Thrift Shop Appreciation and Check Distribution Dinner held on Monday, September 22, at Northwood High School.
Themed “Our Volunteers Are Stars,” the event honored the countless hours donated by parents, students, and community members who volunteered at the county’s three PTA Thrift Shops — located in Cole Park, Pittsboro, and Siler City. These shops, which sell donated goods to fund school support, generated $548,502.15 over the past year, fueled by 28,297.38 volunteer hours across all schools.
Each school's check reflected its volunteer contributions, with top-earning schools including:
Northwood High School: $59,686.65 (4,139.2 hours)
Seaforth High School: $36,296.26 (2,128 hours)
Chatham Central High School: $33,077.28 (1,851.22 hours)
Bennett School: $32,036.74 (1,761.75 hours)
J.S. Waters School: $31,745.99 (1,736.75 hours)
Other school earnings included:
George Moses Horton Middle School: $30,330.02 (1,615 hours)
Jordan-Matthews High School: $29,556.62 (1,548.5 hours)
Pittsboro Elementary School: $29,463.00 (1,540.45 hours)
Virginia Cross Elementary: $28,948.95 (1,496.25 hours)
Siler City Elementary: $28,245.33 (1,435.75 hours)
Silk Hope School: $28,227.88 (1,434.25 hours)
Chatham Middle School: $27,332.37 (1,357.25 hours)
Margaret B. Pollard Middle School: $27,294.57 (1,354 hours)
Bonlee School: $26,631.65 (1,297 hours)
Perry Harrison Elementary: $25,359.90 (1,187.65 hours)
North Chatham Elementary: $21,466.29 (852.86 hours)
Moncure School: $19,362.84 (672 hours)
Chatham Early College: $17,019.38 (470.5 hours)
Chatham Grove Elementary: $16,420.43 (419 hours)
“Each volunteer hour has a tangible impact on our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Anthony D. Jackson. “This year’s extraordinary turnout is a testament to our community’s commitment to education and to each other.”

Chatham County’s three PTA Thrift Shops operate as nonprofit retail stores that fund public schools. Community members are encouraged to donate gently used items, volunteer, and shop. All profits benefit Chatham County Schools.
