PITTSBORO, N.C. — The Chatham County community came together on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Northwood High School for the third annual Exceptional Strides for Exceptional Students 5K, an event dedicated to celebrating and supporting students with disabilities in Chatham County Schools.
The morning kicked off with the Trail 5K at 9:30 a.m. Followed by a spirited quarter-mile Fun Run at 10:30 a.m. which was wheelchair-friendly, ensuring that participants of all abilities could take part in the celebration.
“This event was about more than running — it was about celebrating inclusion, awareness, and the power of community,” said Dr. Anthony Jackson, Superintendent of Chatham County Schools. “Every stride taken represented our commitment to growing the whole child and supporting the success of all students.”
Participants also engaged through the “I Just Want the Shirt!” option and by sponsoring runners with disabilities, further extending the event’s impact and underscoring the importance of community partnerships in advancing educational equity.
“We were thrilled to see our families, volunteers, and community members come together in support of our students,” said Ms. Lessley Saenz-Mader, Director of Exceptional Children and AIG. “It was wonderful to see the true reflection of our community’s dedication to ensuring ALL students feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”
