Chatham County Schools Celebrates AVID Day: Honoring Educators, Empowering Students, and Sharing Success Stories

PITTSBORO, N.C. – On Friday, September 12, Chatham County Schools proudly joins districts nationwide in celebrating AVID Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the transformative impact of the AVID program on students, educators, and communities.

AVID Day shines a spotlight on the educators who work every day to close opportunity gaps and on the students who are rising to new heights through AVID’s proven strategies. It’s a celebration of academic growth, personal development, and future-ready skills that prepare students for success beyond the classroom.

Chatham County Schools has partnered with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) to equip students with the tools, support, and mindset they need to thrive. Through this partnership, our students are not only overcoming academic challenges but also gaining critical skills in communication, collaboration, and goal setting — skills that pave the way to college, careers, and lifelong success.

The impact of AVID in our district is clear:

  • From the $33.5 million in scholarships awarded to the Class of 2025, AVID students accounted for $24 million, or 73% of the scholarships.

  • Chatham Central High School was designated as the first rural school to be named a National Demonstration School.

  • Chatham County Schools has implemented AVID at fourteen sites across all grade spans.

Celebrate With Us: Share Your AVID Story

This AVID Day, we invite our community — students, educators, alumni, and families — to share how AVID has impacted their lives. Complete the sentence:

“Because of AVID, I…”

Whether it’s a goal achieved, a skill learned, or a life changed, your story matters. Post on social media using #MyAVIDWhy and tag @ChathamCountySchools /#OneChatham, #ElevateChatham to join the celebration.

Together, we’ll honor the people, moments, and opportunities that make AVID more than just a program — it’s a pathway to a brighter future.
