Chatham County Schools Celebrated Seaforth High School’s Back-to-Back Wells Fargo 2A State Cup Championships
PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chatham County Schools (CCS) proudly celebrated Seaforth High School's (SEA) recognition as the Wells Fargo 2A State Cup Champion for the second consecutive year, an honor that crowned SEA as the most outstanding overall athletic program in North Carolina’s 2A classification.
The award, presented by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) and Wells Fargo, was based on a points system that rewarded SEA for top finishes in state championship events across all sports. With 547.8 points, SEA not only secured the 2A title but also finished as the second-highest scoring program in the entire state, behind only 4A champion Cardinal Gibbons (637.5 points).
The official banner and trophy presentation took place at halftime during SEA’s first home football game on Friday, August 29, 2025. SEA alumna and North Carolina sports legend, Juli Kidd, returned to present the award on behalf of the NCHSAA. “This championship represented the heart, dedication, and excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, and community,” said Dr. Anthony Jackson, CCS Superintendent. “Winning back-to-back Wells Fargo Cups is an incredible achievement — it shows that Seaforth High School is not just building strong athletic programs, but cultivating a culture of teamwork, resilience, and pride.”
Programs Contributing to the Championship
The following SEA athletic teams played a vital role in securing state championship points:
● Volleyball
● Men’s & Women’s Cross Country
● Wrestling
● Women’s Basketball
● Indoor & Outdoor Men’s Track & Field

● Men’s Tennis
Across the 2024–2025 athletic season, SEA teams captured three state championships, four runner-up finishes, two third-place finishes, a fourth-place finish, and multiple top-eight performances.
A Community Celebration
During halftime, SEA coaches, selected players, and representatives gathered at midfield for the ceremony before making way for the marching band’s performance. Athletes from the championship-contributing teams were also given the opportunity to purchase commemorative Wells Fargo State Cup Championship rings to mark the achievement.
