Good evening Mariner Families,

This is Emmet Ricker with your first Top 5 Things to know phone call of the year. For those of you who are new to PHS, Ms. Doty  makes a weekly Wednesday night phone call to all of our families filling you in on the important events and information you need to know. She forgot last night but promises to do better next week! So here we go!

  1. Morning and afternoon car rides are running very smoothly this year and we thank all of our families for this. Please remember to let your child out of the car on the right side, closest to the sidewalk as this is a much safer option for both your child and the staff member. Also, please remain in your car at all times and a staff member will help your child enter and exit the car safely. If your child needs assistance buckling their seat belt in the afternoon, please pull up to the wooden fence at the top of the lane and put your hazard lights on. This allows us to keep the cars moving in a safe and effective way.
  2. At the end of September, more than $600,000 will be distributed across Chatham County Schools from Chatham PTA Thrift Shop profits because of those who donate, shop, or volunteer at one of the three thrift shop locations.  The more our school volunteers, the more money we make!  There are many ways to earn volunteer hours, and you can learn more on our PTA website at or by contacting PHS Thrift Shop Coordinator, Julie Ricker at  Family Members and students ages 10 and up can volunteer to earn money for the grade level or department of their choice.  There are two PHS work group sessions scheduled each month at the Cole Park Store off 15-501, and the sign up link is here.   Hope to see you at the PTA Thrift Shop this year!
  3. Club Fit is BACK!!!  Club Fit is a before school program for students in 1st – 5th grades! It runs from 7:30am – 7:50am beginning next Tuesday, September 6th.

Club Fit will take place in the gym, and is optional! Please view the email version of this message to learn more details about Club Fit!

4th – 5th graders: Tuesdays and Thursdays
1st - 5th graders (Team Games Day!): Fridays

Students will participate in a variety of active games that will help to prepare them for the day!  Research shows that students benefit academically from being physically active! So, come join the fun with Ms. Bowling!  Parents should contact Ms. Bowling at, if you have any questions!

Thanks and have a great evening.
