CCAEOP makes holidays happier for Chatham County families
PITTSBORO — The Chatham County Association of Educational Office Professionals (CCAEOP) pitched in to provide presents that will help Jamie’s Vision Inc. make the holidays happier for Chatham County families.
“It was such an honor to partner with Jamie's Vision, which serves the children of Chatham County, for our CCAEOP winter project,” CCAEOP treasurer Cindy Mason said. “They provided meals for 10 children in each of our schools during Thanksgiving, so it only seemed fitting that we help with the Winter Wishes Project. If a child is hungry or cold, they are not going to be able to concentrate on their schoolwork and may not be performing to the best of their ability. In the words of Rita Pierson, ‘Every child deserves a champion — an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.’ I hope CCAEOP and Jamie's Vision brought the feeling of championship to each child that was touched.”
CCAEOP’s philanthropy was consistent with the district’s approach to education.
“The whole-child approach focuses on social, emotional, mental and physical aspects so that each child can fulfill their full potential,” CCAEOP president Kristin Guthrie said. “Most of the gifts that Central Services employees donated were basic-need items such as shoes, socks, coats and sweaters. Providing these type of necessities for children allows them to actively engage in learning and connect to the school and community without added worry. In addition, it assists in cultivating healthy and trusting relationships and displays the care and support from adults. Personally, since I'm not in a classroom, it's a small gesture that I can do that will make a big impact.”
