District gains National Board Certified Teachers
PITTSBORO — Add three more National Board Certified Teachers to the ranks of Chatham County Schools (CCS) educators who have earned that distinction.
- Michelle Scott is a counselor at Silk Hope School.
- Catherine Oldham teaches reading and language arts at Pittsboro Elementary School.
- Sydney Sportelli is an early childhood educator at North Chatham Elementary School.
National Board Certification is a performance-based, peer-reviewed process requiring candidates to demonstrate impact on student learning and achievement.
“It’s one of the ways our teachers model what it means to be a lifelong learner,” said Norma Boone, the executive director for teacher induction and Title II services for CCS.
The new additions bring the number of CCS educators with National Board Certification to 69.
“These new National Board Certified Teachers will continue to change the way their students learn, and their proven ability to be the best teachers they can be will have a ripple effect on their schools and their communities for years to come,” National Board for Professional Teaching Standards President and CEO Peggy Brookins said. “National Board Certification is about elevating the teaching profession; and it is about helping children achieve at higher rates.”
