Chargers strong for Northwood, state during FCCLA conference
GREENSBORO — Every Northwood High School student who competed during the state conference for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) earned either gold or silver medals in April — seven gold, six silver.
Both Greyson Snyder and Tatum Pryor qualified to represent not only Northwood but also North Carolina during the national FCCLA conference in Anaheim, California, from June 30-July 4. At the state conference, Snyder earned a silver medal in fashion design (occupational level), while Pryor secured a gold medal for her work in nutrition and wellness (occupational level).
FCCLA students compete at the junior level through ninth grade. The senior level is for students in tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades who have taken at least one class in family and consumer science. The occupational level is for students in tenth, eleventh and tweltfh grades who have taken a second-level class in family and consumer science and plan on pursuing work in a related field.
Northwood’s medalists also included:
- Charlie Hatch and Rachael McWilliams, gold medal, third in state for advocacy (senior level)
- Brooke Ertl, silver medal, third in state for career investigation (occupational level)
- Aniya Crump and Chloe Wheeler, silver medal for food innovations (silver level)
- Cindy Lin, Kevin Lin and Vanessa Valdez, gold medal, third in state for food innovations (senior level)
- Mikayla Smith, silver medal, third in state for food innovations (occupational level)
- Kharrington Godbee, gold medal, third in state for illustrated talk (occupational level)
- Nivia Alston, silver medal, third in state for nutrition and wellness (senior level)
