Community members helping district leaders establish attendance zone

PITTSBORO — Pittsboro Elementary School was the final stop of a listening tour to help establish the attendance zone for Chatham Grove Elementary School.Perry W. Harrison Elementary School Assistant Principal John Heath speaks with a community member during an input session.

Chatham Grove remains on schedule to open in the fall of 2020 on Andrews Store Road, across from Margaret B. Pollard Middle School.

During input sessions at Perry W. Harrison and North Chatham elementary schools, community members heard presentations from Chatham County Schools Chief Operations Officer Chris Blice and representatives of N.C. State University’s Operations Research and Education Laboratory, part of the Institute for Transportation Research and Education. The presentations equipped community members to ask informed questions about how the attendance zone might impact them. The Chatham County Board of Education will use those queries, as well as survey data, to establish the attendance zone.

"We want to be sure that stakeholders have an opportunity to appropriately weigh in on this important decision,” Blice said.
