PITTSBORO — Hurricanes, tropical storms and heavy snowfall notwithstanding, Chatham Grove Elementary School is taking shape.
“Despite the weather, the project has been progressing and remains on schedule," Chatham County Schools Director of Maintenance and Construction Randy Drumheller said. "Retaining walls are complete. Storm drainage, foundations and masonry are in progress, as well as the underground installation of electrical and plumbing. In addition, 80 of the 150 geothermal wells have been drilled."
Chatham Grove is expected to open in 2020 on Andrews Store Road, near Margaret B. Pollard Middle School.
Seaforth High School is on schedule for a 2021 opening on Seaforth Road, off U.S. Highway 64 near Jordan Lake.
“The sediment basins have been completed, with clearing and grubbing continuing,” Drumheller said. “Removal of soil from the building footprint to the southeast corner of the site has begun with building pad completion anticipated near the end of January. A stoned staging area is being established for parking and office trailers with the goal of completion by year’s end.”
