Virginia Cross administrator Sarah Estes named Principal of the Year
PITTSBORO — Sarah Estes, who leads Virginia Cross Elementary School for Chatham County Schools, was named Principal of the Year on Friday, Oct. 8.
“I am so honored to receive this,” Estes said. “I have been fortunate to have strong support and people with shared vision who have helped me develop what I believe is a really amazing school with equally amazing staff and students.”
Estes is now in her fourth year as principal at Virginia Cross.
“Our district is fortunate to have Ms. Estes as part of its leadership,” said Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson. “She fosters an environment where her staff is motivated and collaborative. It’s an educational environment for staff and students that we are immensely proud to have.”
Estes said Virginia Cross is particularly strong in its ability to induct, support, and develop staff.
One of the reasons she was selected for the honor of Principal of the Year was because of the strong structure she has put in place to empower staff.
“At VCE, we believe that we may not have all the answers, but we can problem-solve and work together to improve outcomes for children,” Estes said. “I truly love my job, and I am so grateful for the colleagues I have.”
Before joining Virginia Cross as principal, Estes served as Assistant Principal at Pittsboro Elementary for six years and North Chatham Elementary for one year. She acquired her Master’s in School Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Before that she taught elementary school in Granville County.
