• When is arrival and dismissal?

    Our school doors open to students at 7:30. Students may enter the building at 7:30 and must be in the classroom by 7:55 am.

    What is the bell schedule?

    Students must be in the classroom by 7:55am each day.  They are dismissed at 2:55pm.

    Please refer to the AM Video  and PM Video  for more details on car rider drop off and dismissal. Families picking up car riders must display their walker and car rider tags to ensure student safety during dismissal. Please contact the front office for your tags.

    I need to make a transportation change for my child. What should I do?

    Send a note or call the office as soon as possible.  We cannot accommodate transportation changes after 2:00.  Please note bus changes are subject to available space.  

    What if my child is absent from school?

    Please send a dated and signed note explaining the absence within 3 days of your child’s return to school.

    My child needs to take medication at school. What do I need to do?

    You and your child’s licensed health care professional will need to complete our district’s Medication Form.  In addition, you will need to come to the Main Office to drop off the medication in its original and labeled container.

    How do lunch balances work?

    Purchases must be paid for ahead of time or at the cash register at the point of selection.  Breakfast is free and Lunch is $4.00.  The cafeteria accepts checks (made out to Pittsboro Elementary Cafeteria) or cash deposited in student lunch accounts.  Parents can also set up an online account at SchoolCash Online .To register, find out your student’s PowerSchool number from our Main Office.    

    Who should I contact if I have a change of address, phone number, or emergency contacts?

    Notify our Data Manager, Mrs. Berry, in our Main Office.

    I have a question or concern about the bus. Who should I talk to?

    Reach out to our Assistant Principal, Ms. Kinder, by phone or email (ekinder@chatham.k12.nc.us).

    I want to get involved at the school. How can I do this?

    Your first point of contact would be your child’s teacher.  We also always need help shelving library books in the Media Center for Mrs. Jeremiah  In addition, our PTA is always busy planning school events and running programs to support our children.

    Who needs to complete a Volunteer Application and background check?

    All field trip chaperones and volunteers who will directly work with students (ie tutors) will need to complete the Volunteer Application and Background Check found on our school’s homepage.  Please note that background checks may take up to two weeks to process and that they must be run every school year.

    What is a Tier Plan?

    Teachers frequently monitor student data and discuss interventions to implement so that students will grow academically and behaviorally.  Tier II and Tier III plans are created by teachers and parents to provide additional support to students who need it.   

    Are there any guidelines for bringing in treats for the class?

    We encourage healthy snacks for our students.  If you would like to bring a special treat for the class, please first contact your child’s teacher.  Snacks must be given after lunch and they must be store bought (no homemade treats).

    Where is the Lost and Found?

    Our Lost and Found is in the Cafeteria.  Please be sure to check it frequently as we periodically donate unclaimed items to our PTA Thrift Shop.
