    Siler City Elementary School Families,

Congratulations to our February “Paw Prints to Excellent and Leadership Award” winners--Sharon Pyrtle, Deborah Threatt, & Becky Whyte.  They serve as our math interventionist and work 150% each day to help our kids excel in math.

We have a new visitor check in system!   As a reminder each visitor is required to check in at the front office and obtain a visitor pass.  For your convenience, we now have an ID scanner. If you are able, consider bringing an ID with you when signing in to make the check in process faster.  Note that you are not required to provide an ID. You will still be able to manually key your information into our system. The manual process will take a little longer, however.  Also, don’t forget to “check out” on your way out of school. Thank you for your understanding as we continually strive to make our school safer for your children and more efficient for our parents.

Please mark your calendars.  We will be having our 2nd Annual Multicultural Heritage Night on Friday, February 22, from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Last year’s event was a huge success. Many countries and cultures were represented with food, flags, and music!  If you are interested in participating at this year’s event, please call the front office and let Itzel or Maria know, or email Janet Bridges at janetb@chatham.k12.nc.us to reserve a space.  We hope to make this another successful evening!

ACCESS testing for our ESL students in grades 1-5 will begin tomorrow, Monday, February 11 and end Tuesday, February 19.  Please make sure your children, especially those taking the ACCESS test this week, are well rested. Our students can do their best when they have plenty of sleep.

We are now accepting applications for Preschool for the 2019-2020 school year. Children must be 4 years old by August 31, 2019 to qualify.  Applications may be picked up from the front desk in the office and returned as soon as possible. Applications must be complete in order to be processed. Please do not wait. Preschool is a great way to prepare your child for Kindergarten and teach them social and emotional skills.  Also know that all of our pre-k sites are 5-star rated (the highest designation you can receive in NC). If you have any questions please feel free to ask our preschool teachers or Itzel at the front desk.

Please mark your calendars for our first annual Family Fest on February 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Jordan Matthews High School. Come learn about community and school-based resources for your family. There will be dinner served, activities for students, and a Virtual Reality truck for all ages! Participants will have the opportunity to win year-long wifi access, an apple ipad, and gift cards. We hope you can join us for a fun evening! Please call Itzel at the front office to RSVP. The school with the most students who RSVP and participate could earn $2,000 for their school to support their students.

Thanks, and hope you all had a fantastic weekend,

    Dr. Larry Savage
