Ms. Cheryl Whitehead
This past summer, my first book of poems, So Ghosts Might Stop Composing, was published by Finishing Line Press. My poems have appeared in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Crab Orchard Review, The Hopkins Review, and many other journals. I have received grants and scholarships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the North Carolina Writers’ Network, Tigertail Productions, and the Astraea Foundation. I also write articles about visual art for Milieu Magazine.
I began my teaching career at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where I taught music appreciation. Since then, I have taught in public schools in Greensboro, North Carolina and Miami, Florida. I received my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the Sewanee School of Letters, and my Master of Music Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Before coming to The Chatham School of Science and Engineering, I taught English II, III, & IV at the Middle College at North Carolina A&T State University.
