The Dual Language Program at Chatham Middle School started with the rising 6th graders from Siler City Elementary in the 2011-2012 school year. Twenty-three bilingual students spent the year taking Spanish Language Arts (Lenguaje y literatura 6) and Science (ciencias naturales) in Spanish and Math and Social Studies in English. All students in classes on the Barracudas Team also participate in an enhanced multicultural curriculum that ties into the Social Studies content and focuses on the contributions of diverse cultures to world history.

The program has now grown to include more than 100 students at the school. All students in the Dual Language program take 50% of their core content classes in Spanish.

El programa bilingüe (Dual Language) empezó en el año 2011 con el primer grupo de estudiantes bilingües de Siler City Elementary. Los veinte tres estudiantes tomaron las materias español 6 y ciencias naturales en español y matemáticas y estudios sociales en inglés. Todos los estudiantes que forman parte del equipo “Los Barracudas” aprovechan de un currículo multicultural con énfasis en la diversidad.

Más de 100 estudiantes participan hoy en el programa bilingüe. De las 4 materias principales, se enseña 2 en español y 2 en inglés.
