Superintendent's Office

  • To the parents, students, and staff of Chatham County:

On behalf of the Chatham County Schools Board of the Education, it is my pleasure to welcome you to another exciting school year. As your new Superintendent, I am looking forward to working with each of you to ensure a school year filled with opportunities, growth and success for our students.  Over the past year, COVID-19 has challenged us. COVID-19 has changed us; and as a result, our students have demonstrated amazing resiliency. We are looking forward to having students return to our classrooms, with a regular routine, reconnecting with their friends, and engaging in high quality learning experiences with enthusiasm and excitement. Employees across our district have demonstrated perseverance, passion and an unapologetic commitment to doing what is right for students in every classroom, every day.  Our commitment is to do whatever is necessary to ensure as much face-to-face instruction as possible as we navigate these uncertain times. Our number one priority will be staying focused on our mission critical priorities: the success of our students, safety for all and building relevant relationships that matter for students and staff.

Chatham County Schools are committed to maintaining a clear focus on what is most important to all of us – our students. Each of our schools has created a student-focused learning environment with opportunities for personalized instruction to meet the diverse needs of all of our learners.  Exposing them to real-world opportunities to empower and inspire them as they prepare for their bright and prosperous futures is a continuous effort to ensure that we further commit to offering support for our students’ mental and emotional health.

As I embark upon this new journey with you, I want to make it clear that I sincerely believe that relationships matter.  Relationships between homes, communities, and schools are essential to the success of our students. We encourage all to serve as champions and cheerleaders in their children’s education by engaging closely with the schools, communicating with teachers and partnering with us as we work to ensure that your child realizes their full potential.

As we start the year with five days of face-to-face instruction for all students, I want to reiterate that the health and safety of our students and staff will continue to be our top priority. We will follow guidance from state and local health officials, as well as the CDC. Our plans to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 include promoting healthy hygiene behavior, physical distancing, and enhanced cleaning protocols. Face coverings will be required for all students and staff in our school buildings and on buses, regardless of vaccination status. While we understand the importance of face-to-face instruction and are committed to keeping our students in the classroom, we ask our school community to be flexible and patient throughout the school year as we work diligently to deliver on this promise.

I want to personally wish each of you a safe, successful, and exciting school year. Our students are the heart of our work.  We are prepared to ensure that this will be our best year yet!  Thanks and have a great year!

    Honored to serve,

    Dr. Anthony D. Jackson, Superintendent
    Chatham County Schools
