Distinguished Alumni Awards Program Launches

CHATHAM SCHOOLS LOOKING FOR DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI

PITTSBORO, NC — Chatham County Schools launched the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Awards Program on March 10, 2017, as a way to recognize the contributions the district’s graduates have made in their professions, communities or the school system.

Chatham County Schools graduates have found success both locally and nationally, so it’s only natural to capture positive stories about how Chatham County Schools contributed to the lives of its graduates, said Keith Medlin, the district’s chief information and technology Officer. This is a tangible way of linking current students to the generations that came before, Medlin continued.

Selected alumni, from current and historic Chatham County Schools, will be publicly recognized during the commencement ceremonies for the school from which the distinguished alum graduated. Alumni from historic schools will be recognized at the school geographically closest to the historic school’s location. Each current school will honor one distinguished alum during the 2017 commencement ceremonies.

Nominations will be accepted online through Friday, April 14, 2017 at noon. The application can be found on the homepage of the Chatham County Schools website (www.chatham.k12.nc.us), as well as on the homepage for each high school. The public is encouraged to submit nominations on behalf of Chatham County Schools graduates. Each nomination will be reviewed by a team from a current school that includes teachers, parents, administrators and students.

“Our graduates are making phenomenal contributions in a number of unique ways, and the Distinguished Alumni Awards Program will highlight their work while forging stronger bonds with our current students.,” said Chatham County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Derrick D. Jordan.

ONLINE NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN THROUGH 12pm APRIL 14, 2017 AT: http://bit.ly/ccsalum17
