Following a study on ancient Greece, students in
Alissa SchmidtÕs social studies class celebrated by participating in their own
Olympic games. The students were
divided into city-states, created banners with their team, and divided up the
Olympic events among themselves.
The festivities began with an opening ceremony, which introduced each
team, an official welcome to the event, and an olympic oath being stated by the
participants. Events included
chariot racing (wheelbarrow), shot put (with a cotton ball), memory boxing,
long distance race, tongue twisters, and long jump. In conclusion, medals were given out to
the first, second, and third place participants in all events.
