  • Changes in bus schedules due to Lystra Road closure:

On January 18th, the Department of Transportation closed Lystra Road between Farrington Point and Jack Bennett Road and set up detours for traffic. The Department of Transportation has urged drivers to use caution in the area and expect delays.

Therefore, our buses are expected to follow the posted detour signs and we will have temporary bus route changes until this road reopens.

Bus 180 will follow their normal stops/times.

The following are the delays that we are anticipating:

Bus 37 will be delayed 10 – 15 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon will be delayed 20-30 minutes.

Bus 179 1st run will run on time. Bus 179 2nd run will experience a 25 to 30 minute delay morning and afternoon.

All other buses will have normal morning pickup times but afternoon drop off times will be delayed by 20 – 30 minutes.

Thank you for being patient with drivers during this time.

    See you in the morning.

Por esta razon, nuestros buses tienen que seguir las indicaciones del desvio y haremos unos cambios temporales en las rutas hasta que abran la calle.

Bus 180 Tendra las paradas y las  horas normales.

    Anticipamos los siguientes retrasos :

Bus 179 1st ruta  estara a tiempo . Bus 179 2nd ruta, espere retraso de  25 a 30 minutos en la mañana y en la tarde.

  • Wiley

The Chatham Arts Council is the recipient of a leadership gift from Chatham Homes Realty, made in recognition of the pilot year of the council’s Chatham Artists-in-Schools Initiative.

The Chatham Homes Realty Theatre Arts Residency at North Chatham Elementary will take place in April 2016 with nationally recognized artist Mike Wiley.

Kris and Dwayne Howard, owners of Chatham Homes Realty, made the naming gift. They think the arts are important for business owners in Chatham County. “The arts build community, bringing people from every walk of life together. This social cohesion makes our community more vibrant, which benefits all business owners,” says Howard. Their family also has a personal connection to the arts—both of their children graduated from the NC School of the Arts. She notes they chose this residency program because “the arts make kids more well-rounded. Some turn to sports, and other students look to the arts to supplement their academic efforts. We don’t want to lose arts in schools, especially since that’s the first place there are budget cuts. This gift helps us give back to the community that helped our children grow into their arts careers.”

Wiley's one-man production, Jackie Robinson: A Game Apart, teaches history in an engaging way through the arts. The Chatham Homes Realty Theatre Arts Residency fulfills the arts council’s dual focus of investing in local artists and educating students through the arts.

This residency is a partnership between Chatham Arts Council and Chatham County Schools. Funding is through a grant from the NC Arts Council’s cARTwheels program, with a monetary match from Chatham County.

Chatham Arts Council’s Artists-in-Schools Initiative will supplement school efforts to provide arts experiences for Chatham students. A second residency is in progress at Virginia Cross Elementary School. Professional performing artists Serena Ebhardt and David zum Brunnen, also Chatham County residents, are working with fifth graders to create a script they will produce into a school-wide theatrical production complete with music, art, and technology.

Principal's Message

  •  Weekly Update 2/5/15

Please remember that attendance is critical to your child’s education. Please have

your child at school by 7:55 am each morning. Staff members that are working at car

pool drop off come in to begin classes as soon the bell rings. If staff have already

come inside, please pull around the to the office area to sign your child in. All

students are tardy after the 7:55 bell has rung. We would also like to encourage you

not to pick your children up until 2:55 unless absolutely necessary. Thank you for

    making this a priority.

This past week was School Counselor’s Appreciation Week and this coming week is

Bus Driver Appreciation Week. We appreciate our counselor and bus drivers each

and every day. Thank you all for everything you do for students at North Chatham.

From now on in the car rider line, please make sure you a moving up as close as possible to the car in front of you in line. We are trying to avoid leaving large gaps in between cars. We would like to eliminate people having to wait out on Lystra Road. Also, once the line begins to build up at the exit, please turn at the gym and go out by the front of the school. All grade levels are in the process of including an Intervention/Enrichment time during their day. Intervention/Enrichment time is a 30 to 40 minute block of time daily. Teachers across the grade level will use data to group and regroup kids with teachers on that grade level to support growth in the areas of reading and math. Groups will adjust often. Ask your child about what they do during I/E time and whom they are working with during this time. Please ask your child’s teacher about this during conferences if you have additional questions.
