What is it?
Upward Bound is a college preparatory program serving students that are from low-income and first generation backgrounds at 6 target high schools in Chatham, Durham, and Lee counties. Students enrolled in the Program are provided with after-school tutoring, Saturday workshops held at UNC Chapel Hill, and campus visits. In the summer, participants live on campus and take classes to prepare them for fall. There is also an internship opportunity for select students to be matched with an employer in the career field of their interest. All students receive research experience, academic and career advising, financial planning assistance, testing preparation, leadership development, and help navigating the college application and decision process. Every service provided through Upward Bound is completely free for Program participants.
Chatham Central HS Upward Bound holds our mandatory tutoring sessions every Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15-4:45 pm.
How do I apply?
The application is available online at http://upwardbound.web.unc.edu/apply-now/ Before applying, make sure you are a citizen, permanent resident, or on the way to becoming a permanent resident of the United States.
